Mount Street

Early 19th Century Terraced Townhouse

Mount Street

A late Georgian terraced property was acquired by our client, after many varied uses.

The building had a dark windowless structure constructed to the rear as a recording studio and many original features had been removed or damaged due to inappropriate interventions. The owners sought to restore the house to its former elegance by removing additions no longer serving the building. The adapted form allowed for more light and aspect to the small urban garden framed with reinstated limestone walls. Modern fittings include the insertion of a kitchen at upper ground level with aspects to the garden. A small study in the landing created a clear vista from the entrance to the rear with added light from a rooflight above.

Calsitherm was used to improve thermal qualities in rooms without coving details. Hemp insulation was installed into attic spaces. Repair work to internal walls was carried out in lime plaster.
